Hi everyone,

One of the comments passed on to me from time to time about what I do with these updates is that there is a sporting bias so this is an attempt on my part to redress the balance !!! Please be aware that I can only include information about people I know about and I would be most grateful for as many other details or inaccuracies in my information to be forwarded on to me ....... Here goes with approximate time at school in brackets where known ...

MUSIC

Jeremy Redmore (late 90’s) is the lead singer & one of the main writers for Midnight Youth who are currently doing very well with their album “ The Brave don’t Run”. It is up for recognition at the NZ Music Awards.

David Morgan, Regan Lethbridge & Glenn Mossop  (late 90’s) are all members of the Melbourne based Bonjah who featured in the August edition of Rolling Stone as a “Band to Watch”. Their single “Fly” features on Jetstar advertising in NZ & the boys are looking to tour New Zealand in October.

Grant Winterburn (early 1980s) featured on keyboards with the NZ’s got talent show and is recognised as one of NZ’s leading jazz keyboard players on piano & organ.

Chris Watson ( 1990s) is currently the Mozart Fellow at Otago University having completed a Ph.D. at Victoria. He has won the 2002 Asian Composers Competition and has had works performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic & NZ Symphony Orchestras.

Tumanako Farrell , who starred in the TBC Production of Grease in 1990, continues to woo the crowds with regular appearances at the SkyTower casino in Auckland. He won the Australasian Karaoke Championships at one stage and has spent a considerable period of time entertaining on Cruise Ships.

Rock & Roll revivalist Tom Sharplin (1960’s) & his band the Cadillacs were very popular featured artists at the 50th Jubilee celebrations last year & are well supported through the North Island.

Robbie White (1980s) is a rock & Roll singer/song writer influenced by groups such as the Beatles & the Clash. He is Auckland based and has recorded material @ the Sound Room recently.

Glyn Marillier (1960s) is based in Perth these days and has had a professional career in Music there for many years.

ART

A number of Old Boys have exhibited in the Tauranga Art Gallery since it opened. Nigel Brown (1960s) has just finished a major show while others including John McLean (1960s), who resides in Taranaki  and local potter John Roy (1990s) have had work in some of the smaller spaces.

Other Old Boys showing/working fulltime as artists in Tauranga are Richard Smith (1970s ?) , Antony Warnes (1950s) & graffiti artist Graeme Hoete (1990s).

Malcolm Evans (1960s) worked as one of the foremost cartoonists in NZ – primarily for the NZ Herald – but in recent years has worked more with his painting & sculpture.

Out of Tauranga Glen Leslie (late 1990s) has exhibited a number of times in his hometown of Hamilton while David Brown (1980s) has turned to art fulltime in Wellington after previously working as an archaeologist.

STAGE & SCREEN

Ian Mune (1950s) - an icon of NZ film who has been an actor, writer & director in many of our most influential movies – Sleeping Dogs, The God Boy, End of the Golden Weather, Came a Hot Friday, etc.

Shane Cortese (was Collins - 1980s) is one of our most high profile actors with recent work in Outrageous Fortune on our TV screens and recently on stage in Auckland performing in Cats. He continues to perform with his rock and roll (1950s) group on a regular basis.

Erik Thompson ( Head Prefect 1984) has been in Australia for quite a number of years but has featured on New Zealand TV screens recently in the drama “The Alice” and currently he is starring in “ Packed to the Rafters”.

Several other Old Boys from the 1980s & 1990s – Eryn Wilson, Craig Muller,Brian Callahan & Clint Sharplin – have been involved in a wide range of TV ads, stage shows, Shortland Street, NZ films, theatre & production from their Auckland base.

MEDIA

Wayne Hay (1990s?) read the Sports news on TV 1 a number of years ago and from there has gone to Malaysia where he is now working for Aljazeera TV

Jared Savage (1990s) is one of the lead reporters for the Herald on Sunday while Shayne Currie (1990s) is Editor.

Jay Reeve (1990s) has gone from performing in the Cooking Suite at TBC to presenting on MTV and also recently has been on ZM radio as Breakfast host.


I’m certain this list could be added to substantially so if there are others I don’t know about please pass on the details...
